Julie is a 500ERYT Seasonal Yoga teacher, aerial yoga teacher and pilates instructor with 20 years experience working in the fitness industry. Julie is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience with others to enhance their wellbeing and now training others to share the love of yoga.

The course will run from September to August at Julie's new studio - Aerial Roots Yoga & Pilates, F4, Elmbank Mill, The Charrier, Menstrie FK11 7BU.

DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to provide learners with underpinning knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, and the effects of designated body systems on exercise performance. It provides an understanding of the importance of the structure and function of the body, and provides underpinning knowledge for many other related courses. The overall objective of the course is to establish a functional understanding of the anatomical structures and physiological functions that affect, control, and adapt to exercise.

Created with working fitness professionals in mind, this distance learning course (available only online) enables anyone with occupational or geographic limitations to face-to-face learning to attend. This unit marries short and precise video lectures, practice activities, text reading, and home study to create an exemplary learning environment that provides a sound underpinning in anatomy and physiology to support future professional practice.

The course has six outcomes of learning. On successful completion of the course the learner will be able to:

  1. describe the structure, organization and function of the human body
  2. describe the structure and function of the skeletal system
  3. describe the structure and function of the muscular system
  4. describe the structure and function of the respiratory system
  5. describe the structure and function of the cardio vascular system
  6. describe the use and replenishment of energy substrates during exercise and recognise the by-products of energy use.

ASSESSMENT

This unit is assessed through online self-assessment. In the open access course there are numerous self-assessments in the form of auto-graded quizzes, personal reflections, and practice activities. These assessments are developmental and provided at no cost. They do not satisfy the assessment requirements for award of CEU credit.

To receive CEU credit for this course, you must register and enrol in KA104A - Exercise Physiology & Anatomy Assessment Unit. In that assessment package, there are five (5) course tests comprised of multiple choice items for conceptual assessment, fill-in-the-blank for simple structure identification, matching for recognition of terms and definitions, and a single short (100-200 word) essay to evaluate student ability to synthesise information into a solution for a problem in fitness. Each course test is worth twenty percent (20%) of the possible unit weighting (100%). A minimum aggregate mark of 70% is required for the unit to count towards CEU credit. Each assessment is timed, so there is no time available to look up materials in resources the student might have available. Student identity will be visually confirmed by video at the beginning of each testing session. If a student fails to attain a mark of 70% on any course test, they may retake a variant of the test once after an four week re-study period. It is highly recommended that you register for the assessment package as soon as you have made the decision to pursue CEU credit
